Sustainability

Our commitment to sustainability

The core values of Medtecs are “customer focus, “valuing our people”, and “sustainable practices”. We build these values into the fabric of our business to better the world’s health for everyone, everywhere. We are committed to playing our part and driving for changes to safeguard the interests of our clients, employees, communities and our planet.

In 2015, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that included 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to tackle global issues. We have been actively responding to 12 of the SDGs   and to implement related strategies to create value and positive impact for all stakeholders.

You can read all about our efforts in the Sustainability Reports available for download below which we publish annually,  or you can visit our dedicated sustainability page.

Sustainable Environment

We are devoted to reducing the impact caused to our planet by various business activities.

Energy Use and Management

We appreciate the importance of sustainable energy management and are working towards a more energy-efficient operation which uses more green energy. In order to improve the overall energy efficiency of Medtecs Group, we have adopted a phased approach to replacing current machinery with energy-efficient equipment.

For example, in line with the Taiwan government’s environmental protection policy, we replaced old-fashioned coal-fired boilers with new  liquefied natural gas steam boilers for power generation for our laundry plants in Taiwan, which has improved our overall energy conversion efficiency by 26%.  For our new glove manufacturing facility in Cambodia, we have been using biomass to generate electricity to power our production lines.

Pollution Prevention and Environmental Protection

Medtecs has installed pollution control facilities at each of its operating sites, or commissioned a specialist to provide proper treatment and disposal of manufacturing wastes, in order to reduce our environmental impact.

For our production sites in Cambodian we use no dye in the production process, so any wastewater discharged need not go through special treatment. However, domestic drinking water and filtered water are regularly tested by authorities to confirm that the pH and COD values are within the local discharge standards, and we strive to keep both these values well under the accepted level to ensure our operation does not leave any negative impact on the surrounding neighborhoods.

Sustainability Reports

We maintain transparency in business and through the sustainability report, we intend to outline our commitment and latest efforts in going green and making the world a better place.

Sustainable Supply Chain

We believe that proper management of suppliers will contribute to Medtecs’ business growth and create value for shareholders. In the face of climate change and the outbreak of COVID-19, countries around the world experienced severe supply chain disruptions where raw materials could be hard to come by.

We have diverse manufacturing and operational sites located in Taiwan, the Philippines, Cambodia, and China to minimize supply chain disruptions. We also work with government agencies, international sourcing organizations, and brand owners to build a trusted and resilient network of raw material suppliers, distributors, and manufacturers to cater to eventualities that could affect our supply chain and our access to key raw materials.

Quality Management

Quality management is an important part of ensuring we always provide top-of-the-line products and to ensure continued trust by our customers.  We are known for our comprehensive quality management system and accurate product labeling. Each product is subject to specific specifications and thorough inspection to ensure quality, safety and consistency.

Medtecs’ ISO 13485-compliant quality management system provides a product-oriented approach to risk management for manufacturing, inspection and compliance with the regulatory requirements of the countries in which the products are distributed. For example, medical device manufacturers in Taiwan are required to have QSD/QMS (quality management system) and overseas medical device manufacturers are required to have proof of ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 quality management system certification. We are proud to say we are certified to both ISO standards.

2021 Sustainability Report

Continuing the strategy outlined in 2020, we promoted our business along the five key pillars: ‘Corporate Governance', 'Value Innovation’, 'Sustainable Environment', 'Diversity in the Workplace' and ‘Community Empowerment’. Through management meetings and the Sustainability Reporting Council, we regularly reviewed the Group's sustainability objectives in order to fulfill our corporate social responsibility.

2020 Sustainability Report

While setting records in operational performance and gaining more recognition 2020, the Group initiated various transformation projects to capture our growth momentum. To ensure the sustainable development of the Group, we continuously adhere to our core philosophy of "To Better the World’s Health for Everyone, Everywhere" to create value for all stakeholders and do our best to implement corporate social responsibility based on the five themes of "Integrity Governance", "Value innovation", "Sustainable Environment", "Diversified Workplaces", and "Community Empowerment"

2019 Sustainability Report

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) used to mean primarily monetary or in-kind donation to local charities. In preparing our Sustainability Reports, however, we have realized that CSR is more than just community outreach. Only by leveraging on our expertise and strengths and aligning our business and social interests with those of the communities we operate in can we make the most impact on environmental and social improvements for the long run. This realization has greatly inspired and re-focused the Group’s philanthropic endeavors.

2018 Sustainability Report

In this report, in addition to the material sustainability issues we’d identified for 2017 – Energy, Automation, Employee Training and Workplace Diversity – we have added Supplier Management as a material ESG topic as it has a significant impact on the Group’s bottom line and long-term growth. In response, we have established clearer policies as well as comprehensive operating procedures for the management of suppliers.
