Sustainable Environment
In the face of increasingly severe climate challenges, Medtecs recognizes the critical role that manufacturers play in building a sustainable environment. We are firmly committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and continually optimizing our operations to minimize environmental impact.
From climate change strategy, energy management and water management to waste treatment, we adopt a systematic approach to implementing eco-friendly practices. Our goal is to advance green manufacturing that balances operational efficiency with environmental responsibility.
Climate Change Strategy and Management
In order to gain a better understanding of the greenhouse gas emissions across our company’s various facilities and to establish clearer carbon reduction strategies, we conducted an initial assessment in 2022 focusing on six factories in Cambodia. Building upon this initiative, we plan to expand the assessment scope to include factories in Taiwan, the Philippines, and other locations in 2023. We will pursue external verification and obtain ISO 14064 certification. This will further enable us to develop carbon reduction targets and continue leading Medtecs towards sustainability.
Energy Management
To improve overall energy efficiency across Medtecs Group operations, we regularly conduct inspections and retrofits, replacing outdated equipment with energy-saving alternatives and continuously planning improvement strategies.
In Taiwan, our laundry plant for healthcare services has replaced its old coal-fired boiler with a modern liquefied natural gas (LNG) boiler for power generation. We have also installed a new tunnel-type washing machine and paired it with six natural gas direct-fired dryers, significantly enhancing overall energy conversion efficiency. At our glove manufacturing facility in Cambodia (RMKH Cambodia), we continue to utilize biomass for electricity generation.
Water Management
Medtecs is committed to using environmentally friendly raw materials, conserving water, and improving water efficiency, as well as establishing water recycling facilities. Regarding wastewater discharge, we outperform the required standards and strictly adhere to environmental laws and regulations in each country, avoiding the use of highly polluting chemicals.
Starting in 2022, our facility in the Philippines installed pipelines and water storage tanks for greenery and cooling the factory’s roof, saving 40 million liters of water annually. In Taiwan, our laundry plant for healthcare services uses a new tunnel-type washing machine with a water recovery function. This washer can draw relatively clean rinse water from the end of the washing process back to the front of the tunnel washer for pre-washing, reducing water consumption during the washing process.
Waste Management
Medtecs’ core values in waste management are based on the principles of waste reduction at the source, recycling, and reuse. In addition to focusing on education and training to minimise defects from the manufacturing end, thus reducing the generation of scrap and offcuts, the Company also continually promotes waste sorting, recycling, and reuse among its employees. Furthermore, it collaborates with specialized operators for subsequent waste recycling and processing.
To promote resource recycling, our Cambodia facility processes non-woven fabric scrap waste into plastic pellets on-site, which are then recycled into flower pots for reuse. In 2023, a total of 75 metric tons of flower pots were produced from these recycled materials. Meanwhile, waste fabrics from Taiwan facility are continuously transported to manufacturers producing biomass fuel rods (Solid Recovered Fuel, SRF), which are used in cogeneration plants for electricity generation.
